ubuntu 14.04 attempted install of network printer fereezes

Asked by Roger Kauffman

I have a Brother HL-3070CW printer which is attached by ethernet to my Belkin Router. My Desktop is connected to the same router by ethernet and when running Windows 8.1 connects to the printer withoput problem. I am also able to connect to the printer using Firefox without difficulty.

When attempting to connect to the printer through Ubuntu 14.04 using system settings > printers the process freezes after having located the printer on the network. I am unable to click on anything and have to kill the process manually to continue. The mose does not freeze and other running apps are OK. It is the selection of the device that freezes.

I obtained this:

roger@roger-desktop:~$ cat /var/log/cups/access_log | tail -n10
