Critical Ubuntu bug at laptop Acer Extensa 5230

Asked by Vasilis Ilioglou

Since Ubuntu 13.04 and up, at laptop Acer Extensa 5230, the OS is unable to boot. Even in recovery mode, the system is unable to boot. Specificaly, it lags when it executes these commands:

[ 9.055498] microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.00 <email address hidden>, Peter Oruba
[ 9.403437] pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket0: cs: IO port probe 0x100-0x3af:
[ 9.404889] clean.
[ 9.404954] pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket0: cs: IO port probe 0x3e0-0x4ff:
[ 9.405226] excluding

and then, it stops there with the dash( _ ) blinking. So, as we can see it cant proceed to that "excluding". Can sb of your programmers( or that "Peter Oruba" ) correct this please?

Thank you for your assistance.

This is not the place to talk to programmers. It's a user to user support site.. The microcode message with Peter Oruba's name is unrelated to the messages that follow it.

See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1237336
Unfortunately, it does not look like there is a resolution or workaround there.

Bug 1272786, which is probably describing the same bug suggests that you may be able to boot with acpi=off (but don't be surprised if some things like fan control don't work without ACPI support).
