UPGRADE PROBLEMS WITH UBUNTU 12.04

Asked by GIUSEPPE MASSETANI

I have tried to upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 to the latest long term version 14.04. Actually the Update Manager does not suggest the download of the new LTS version by default, and I do not understand why. Anyway, I tried to download the iso file from the Ubuntu web page, but after the download has been completed, my PC says the the download has not been done properly, so I cannot burn the file to my DVD. I even tried to upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10 but this does not seem to work either, because I receive a warning which says that my machine will probably become scarcely usable due to problems with 3D support for running the unity desktop environment. Can someone give me the right suggestions???? Thank you very much indeed!!!!!

You will not be offered 14.04 until June when it gets to the first point release 14.04.1

This is normal procedure as it allows the early issues to be ironed out before offering the upgrade.

If you want to upgrade to 14.04 before this time you can run:

sudo do-release-upgrade -d

Or you can just wait and it will be offered.
