Can you upgrade with A live14.04 dvd

I have ubuntu 13.10 can I upgrade to 14.04 from a live dvd with out losing my data on 13.10 im on sattlight enternet and it about 3 hrs to down load thank you

Yes you can upgrade from the cd. Backup you files first, bad things can easily happen! DO NOT boot from the CD and select any "upgrade Ubuntu" choices!!!!!! The unwritten parts of the item should really include "Wipe disk and upgrade....." This choice will destroy your files. Now, in software & updates, select other, insert the CD, chose add volume, and the CD should now be a source of the upgrade. Run the software updater and you should have the choice to upgrade, using the cdrom.

After I chose add volume I get ERROR scanning the CD ( could not find a suitable CD ) then it comes up hiyh ( a volume with sofware packages has been detected ) when I start package manager it takes me to the software centerwhat isgoing on?

Oops, it looked so easy. Better check out https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AptCdrom for a more complicated method which hopefully will work.

I ehent to the other site and tryed it that way with no resaltthat worked .I thingk that when i downloaded 13.10 that it did not get it all . So I booted with my live 14.04 disk and to my superies ther was a upgrad option on it I thank you for all your help Bob
