broadcom driver makes Xubuntu 14 crash

When I install the B43legacy driver through synaptic package manager, my wireless card works, but my system starts having major errors and instability.
I reloaded system and am using a wireless adaptor from lynksys. It is stable and working this way. Computer is Compaq nx9010, p4 processor, 1G RAM.
Is there a way to install the driver so as not to have problem?
