upgrading system

Asked by Margaret Mackintosh

Hi,

Several days ago I upgraded my system to Trusty 14.04.. Few minutes ago I turned the computer on and got online. A few minutes later the screen flickered and I no longer have Ubuntu 14.04... I am now back with Ubuntu 13.10.. How can that be? It was a complete upgrade. Any ideas what I should do to get 14.04 back?

Hi,

Talked with my son yesterday and he said that the system showing that I am back to 13.10 is really a bug and that I still actually have 14.04. That I should make a clean upgrade by downloading 14.04, burn it on a DVD, then install from the DVD after I save all the files I want to keep. Started downloading 14.04 using Bit Torrent as it is much faster. The download still took several hours, but the upload has been going all night and all morning to present time. So unable to check for the answer to your questions, since it is uploading. Shows 1.02GB, uploaded 1.87GB with 14 of 35 peers. Don't know how much longer it will take since it is already larger then the 1.02GB that I assumed was the size of the new version. Actually I thought it would just download then I would do as my son suggested. Forgot about the upload part. Once it is finished, I'll let you know. Uploaded 1.90GB so far.
