Laptop freezes while listening to music

Upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 from 13.10. While listening to music using audacious, the laptop suddenly freezes. I have to use the on/off button just to restart. Then I uninstalled audacious using the terminal. Then I tried again listening to music from the rhythmbox player. Just the same after a few songs, i suddenly freezes. I therefore have to shutdown again using the on/off button. What's the problem? Is it from my player, from the upgrade of ubuntu or any other? Please help me. I'm just using this OS for only a few days and I've been having a lot of problem already. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks
