Are you sure you want Saucy 13.10? Please check site below.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Saucy is EOL (end of life) July 2014.
 I have the old operating system, and trying to update to Saucy Salamander. Your statement. What is your old old operating system?
Check sites below, for downloading and installing.

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/install-ubuntu-desktop

On these sites, they say CD but they mean DVD.

I currently have 13.04, have not used my computer for awhile, I need to upgrade to 13.10 before I can update to 14.04. I keep getting an error that says:

W:Failed to fetch http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/saucy/Release Unable to find expected entry 'partner/binary-powerpc/Packages' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file), E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

 I seriously do not know what to do now...

@Fran:

I recommend performing a backup of all your data to offline storage (or a USB powered external harddisk).

Then boot Ubuntu 14.04 into a LiveUSB or LiveCD session and make sure all the hardware works during the LiveCD session before installing onto the harddisk.

A clean install of 14.04 will give less issues than performing upgrades.

I suggest a clean install of Trusty. You can restore user data from your backups.

Can you help with this problem?
