I am new, and I am using Ubuntu 7.10. And when I go to insall/startup Ubuntu it is asking me for my username and password, but i dont have a username or password(not even for my old O.S. that was on there). Can you help me or give me a way to totally format my drive that I will not have this problem? Becasue it is asking me at the main screen for a password and a username. (I didnt have one on my old windows O.S.)

Thanks for the question.

This is not instant support. If you need instant answers, please try the IRC channel #ubuntu instead.

It is not clear from your question when and where you are asked for the password. Are you using the Live-CD? Could you explain a little more what the steps are that you make to get to this point.

THanks

Ok, I have been running Windows 98(first release). I am trying to install Ubuntu 7.10.I am starting up my computer with the Ubutu CD in and I choose the Install/ start option and it does that whole load thing but when I get to the main part of Ubuntu it is asking for my username and password. I am not even in the desktop area of my computer its like it just started up, and I have to enter my username and password to sign in. But the problem is i don't have a username or password( I am brand new to linux OS's). Any help would be amazing. Thank for taking your time to help me Ralph.

If it's the Live CD, it should have a message above the log in box saying that it will log in by itself momentarily.

No, thats not it either. The only thing I can think of is that I might have to load ubuntu's version 7.04. Could that help? Thank again!
