getting epson printer working after upgrade

Asked by david

Hi,
Just upgraded from 13 to 14 - no problems except...........
My old trusty Epson Stylus SX218 is not now working! It's showing up with nice green ticks in all the right places and........I seem to remember something about "cups" when I got it to work when I first installed ubuntu, but I can't remember what I had to do :(
Could someone please walk/talk me through?? Please :)

many thanks - I know it's a holiday weekend but..........

david

Do you mean Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04?

Then thats not 13 to 14. There is no Ubuntu 13 or 14. There are 2 releases each 13.04, 13.10 and 14.04 and 14.10 (released in October)

How did you install the printer initially? What steps did you take?

OK, sorry - I should have been more specific.

Yes, that's what I can't remember.........only that - after a lot of searching around - I came across CUPS & then someone explained how I could use that to get the driver I need.
I've just downloaded the tar file from CUPS but I have no idea how to go on from there!

Hi Andrew,
Thanks a lot for your time.......I just had the brainwave to "add" my printer again - even thought it was already listed & showing 'installed'.
Guess what - it worked!!!

Problem solved - thank you :)
