top menu bar is gone and dash is gone

Does the system have a make and model?
What video chip does the system use?
If you open a terminal with CTRL + ALT + T does it open ok?
Is this a clean install of Trusty or did you upgrade from a previous release? If it is an upgrade, which release did you upgrade from?
If you make a new user and log in as it is the system ok?

How do I make a new user?

sudo dmidecode -t 1; sudo lshw -C display

What is the output?

You can make a new user with:

sudo adduser namehere sudo; sudo passwd namehere

Then you can log off and try the new user. Obviously change 'namehere' to an actual name you can remeber. Unless you want the user to be called namehere, thatbwill work too.

that did not work

I got it back another a windows decoration was blocking it out Emerald was blocking it but now that I have to turn that off i lose my shade to roll up open windows with a mouse roll
