Installing dual boot: Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04 - "grub-install /dev/sda failed"

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 as a dual boot with Windows 8.1, on a secondary hard drive. I'm getting the following error during installation "grub-install /dev/sda failed"
