speaker doesn't have sound before plugin the earphone

Asked by sureleo

I updated my Ubuntu from 12.10 to 13.10 a few months ago. Before updating everything is fine. However, after updating, my Ubuntu cannot have sounds unless I plugin the earphone and adjust the sound of my Ubuntu. I updated my Ubuntu to 14.04 LTS yesterday and this problem still exists.

Actually, this is not a big deal. However, i still want my Ubuntu to be better. I have also tried a lot of solutions on the web and they don't work out.

If any information is needed, feel free to send me an email: <email address hidden>

Try:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse* ~/.config/pulse*

Wait 10 seconds then try sound things

Thanks actionparsnip. However, this doesn't solve the problem. I still need to plugin my earphone and adjust my sound. Only after doing so, my speaker can out put sound.

Is there any configuration file information that I can give you?

I have the same problem on a Toshiba Netbook 200.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled alsa and pulseaudio (which messed up the ubuntu-control-center btw, which I then had to reinstall to recover all the icons) but that didn't help. I added myself to the audio group but have since discovered that was unnecessary.

My ALSA information is located at http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=c3bb83bbff5e3cbb3c9170f7f6cd868c60fa1b34

I have the same problem, in that there is no sound until I plug in a headset. There is sound once output has switched to the headset and sound switches to the speakers if I remove the headset,

Should I create a bug report?

Yes, I think so, surealeo. I have confirmed the problem is not just with your system.
