Ouestion: Why do I need older security updates

Asked by Piet Beukes

I am using Gutsy G at the moment - When doing updates, I see that security updates for Feisty F is also includede in my updates. Why do I need to do these Feiste updates, coz I am not using Feisty any more? It is only using disk space, is it not. and it uses up my broadband ? which i have only a limited amount each month.
I know how to disable the F Fox updates, but do not know if it is wise

Type the following command in the terminal:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

now, make sure there are no lines with the word "feisty" in them.
If you change the file and save it, make sure to apply the changes with the terminal command here:

sudo apt-get update

If your problem persists, please post the contents of that /etc/apt/sources.list file.

Hi Peterr, thanx - however I did know how to solve the issue - but I'm not sure if it is WISE to do so? what would you suggest - just ## the feisty out? or is there a reason why it is a good idea to keep the security updates for Feisty up to date?

You probably don't want feisty repos if you are running gutsy. Comment them out or delete them. If you did an upgrade from feisty it's possible they got left behind. If you did a clean install I have no idea why there would be there.
