After installing newer versions of LibreOffice via PPA, cannot go back

Asked by Star Man

I'm using Precise. It comes with LibreOffice V3.5.7 via standard repository.
I wanted the newest version V4.2.3, so I added the LibreOffice PPA and installed it. Used it, but then needed to return to V3.5.7.
After removing PPA and updating cache, the system won't let me install the previous version from original repository. It says there are many broken dependencies.

This issue happens exactly the same with VLC.

¿How can I get back to the version that was originally included in Precise? (V3.5.7)

You should readadd the PPA then install ppa-purge

It will roll back the packages for you. Use ppa-purge using the same PPA address you added
