Unable to pass the "Do you want to start the upgrade" screen on Ubuntu upgrade 12.10.
1. Notified new Ubuntu upgrade, 12.10. when I opened Thunderbird mail. I think I chose later, then closed down the various applications. I then went into Update Manager to upgrade. I did notice there were other items to install, but did not try to do them, with the thought they might be redundant if the upgrade included those items.
2. It offered more information, on "Do you want to start upgrade?" screen. Sometimes the buttons if too low on a screen go off the page when I use large fonts (vision difficulties). So I attempted to decrease the size, but no change happened.
3. I could not find a continue, cancel, etc. button or any way to continue.
4. When I could not get past that screen, I logged out, then back in to try again.
5. This time it informed me it could only make a partial upgrade. It did look like it included the upgrade package in the install list. The next screen was again the "Do you want to start upgrade?" screen. Again, I was unable to figure out how to get past that screen. Again I logged off then back on to do the work I wanted to finish.
6. I shut down.
7. When I started Ubuntu today, my network connection would not open. (I have a wired connection) I rebooted the router, etc. no avail. My wireless tablet came up fine, which told me it was either the cable or Ubuntu. The cagle was firmly seated, so I restarted. I use a dual boot of Ubuntu and Windows XP. The menu allows me to step back a Ubuntu release. I chose that setting and logged back into Ubuntu.
8. This time my network connection was up and I went back into the Update Manager. It again notified me that there was a new release. I again tried it and was informed the release could only be done as a partial release.
9. I cancelled and went online looking for answers.
10. Although, I am n new to Ubuntu, I have many years of experience in Windows and DOS. . I do have disks for versions 12.10 and 13.10.
11. What is the best way to wipe out the problem and start over? Does the page I got stuck on usually have an exit? Could the developers consder including information on Ubuntu help screens regarding the upgrades and how best to manage them, plus a troubleshooter?
Reply. No, I was not aware that it was the EOF. This was what the Update Manager offered me. So, what is the best way to get past this problem? I do have the 13.10 disk. Do I use it to upgrade, and will it ignore the earlier failure? -- Please note I am a beginner in Ubuntu and have not encountered this type of problem... Do I need to delete files of the 12.10 version to get past this? Or will it overwrite the upgrade failure? Or shall I stick the disk in and see what happens.
