How can I find my system details (since the Unity button doesn't work)

Asked by el_gallo_azul

I'm used to using the Unity Button to start applications for which I don't have a button in the Launcher.

I upgraded from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 today. The first thing I wanted to do was check that it reported as Ubuntu 13.10. I clicked the Unity Button, typed "details", and nothing happened. I tok a screenshot of this after it had sat for about 10 minutes.

I tried a number of other terms in the Unity Button search field without success.

I restarted my computer and tried again. No different.

I did a web search, and found

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CheckingYourUbuntuVersion

and from that page, I used the command "lsb_release -a" in the terminal.

I imagine that a number of applications won't be readily available to me though if I can't use the Unity Button search field.

Yes I know. It's now a bug report, because it should work but doesn't.
