Can I ask a few questions:

- Did you get it only from www.ubuntu.com (or from links from that site)
- Are you using a DVD or a USB flash drive?
- Is it a Computer that you bought that came preloaded with Windows 8 (with "Secure Boot" mode - if it has a Win8 sticker this may be the problem)

- What actually happens when you try to start installing Ubuntu?

What video chip are you using?
Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
What happens when you try to boot the media? You haven't told us and "doesn't work" tells us nothing at all.
If you used a CD did you burn the CD as slowly as possible? Did you burn the file as an image and NOT extract the file....

I downloaded from several sources eg ubuntu /snipca /computer active I then burned to DvD at half speed
the program loads and works for about two days rebooting probably 4 to 5 times then it crashes. some times after a boot it will work for mayby 15 minutes then crahes this has been the case with ever installation. the computer is four years old and has been running windows XP with no problems . I now have six DVDs with version 32bit and 64bit

Have you tested the RAM using Memtest86+ from Grub?

Having rebooted after a crash, shortly after in the top right hand of the sreen a message appeared (An application has crashed on your system now or in the past click on notification Icon to display details) when I click on the Icon the message disappears and nothing else happens no details are displayed.

Is this on an installed system or in the live CD desktop?
