Etherwake doesn't generates WakeOnLan Magic Packets on Kubuntu Trusty

Asked by J Queiroz

I'm trying to use a Kubuntu box to generate WakeOnLan Magic Packets to other machines on my networks.

I installed etherwake for that, but seems that etherwake doesn't get the magic packets sent.

I'm using Kubuntu Trusty Beta:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
Release: 14.04

$ uname -r
3.13.0-19-generic

$ apt-cache policy etherwake
etherwake:
  Installed: 1.09-4
  Candidate: 1.09-4
  Version table:
 *** 1.09-4 0
        500 http://br.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I don't know if this is a problem with etherwake or with the kernel; but when I try to generate the packet, no output is generated, even if I sniff packets in the same machine with wireshark/tcpdump.

I suggest you report a bug. Trusty is not stable and not ready.

Should I file this bug against etherwake or against the kernel package?

I'd say etherwake. You could use wireshark to monitor the network to see if the data is actually going down the line

I've done it, no output at all.

Another machine [same hardware, but running windows 7] generates the magic packets with no problem, and I can capture them even on the kubuntu machine.

Okay, I'm opening the bug, so.
