update notifier icon don't appear when updates available

Asked by reinhard

Hi,

actually I'm using kde and since I used the rt-kernel (I've installed ubuntu-studio) some applets/icons dissapers from the panel like e.g. kmix, clock, klipper,... and the one from update_notifier although the process is running!
Here is the complete story:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/172348

In case of gnome I was able to get the update notification applet (adept updater) back to work, but now I'm using kde as my preferred desktop and I still want to be informed about updates ;)
Also e.g. klipper and the clock applet are working again, but there is still no icon in the panel when I start kmix...

Any help would be appreciated.

greetings
reinhard

I'm using gnome, but maybe these apps have an option in their preferences to check/uncheck, for instance "show tray icon".
On the other hand, you could try:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall application
or:
sudo apt-get remove --purge application
sudo apt-get install application

and then reboot the machine and see if that helps

Can you help with this problem?
