Nvidia-settings fails to run"error querying target relations" segmentation fault(core dumped)

Asked by dave

Trying to run Nvidia settings from terminal (sudo nvidia-settings).... I get messages "error querying target relations" then "Segmentation fault(core dumped"

When running from the "applications" folder - nothing at all happens - it just doesn't run.

You are using the Xorg edgers PPA which is known to be buggy and is not for production systems. It is a highly experimental PPA. I suggest you install ppa-purge and remove the PPA to use the stable version of Xorg and the Nvidia driver from the Ubuntu repositories

Thanks for your help. Using ppa-purge initially removed all NVidia drivers after which, with a bit of poking arounnd , I managed to install the previous version which works reasonably well but at the moment will not play Flash video (eg:youtube)...but I guess that is a separate issue. Flash is installed according to Firefox/addons.
