Is Real Player possible on 12.4

Asked by Allen

Hi Folks,

I would like to play some files from a web site that requires Real Player.
Is there a Real Player that works in Ubuntu 12.4, or a good option?

Please be informed I'm not a Geek, (I'm not smart enough to be one).
If something takes a lot of gobble gook please add the process to your response so I can copy and paste.
(That's about the limit of my PC knowledge base, sorry).

Thanx

Is RealPlayer not in the repos? If you install helix player (may want to search the packages) you should get it.

Well I've spent an hour now trying to find a "realplayer deb" file to down load, they either crash during the down load, or just don't run after I get it to my down load file.

Any suggestions on where to find what I'm looking for with less brain damage?

This isn't looking too good, I'm supprised something this vital hasn't got a work around yet.
But again, know next to nothing about all this stuff.

Thanx

OK, got it loaded and it seems to be ready to go to work!......... But.
The web page I'm trying to get the video from is still arguing this, "a plug-in is needed to display this content".
Is this a plig-in for Mozzila? Or what?

Thanx again

Something else turned up.
After installing Real Player, Pandora.com won't load.
Could there be a conflict of some kind?

Can you watch YouTube and such?

Yes, Youtube is no problem.
I think Pandora is a problem with pandora. I can't get there page to load at all.
For now I just need to figure out what is going on with this "plug-in".

Thx

Have you tried Chrome?

When I use Chrome it tells me I need Realplayer.
Firefox just wants a plug-in.

It's a good thing I don't need this to put a fire out in a hurry!

go to menu -> Tools > Add-ons -> Plugins, make sure you have "Helix DNA Plugin: Realplayer G2 Plugin-In Compatible" and set to "Always activate"

Walter,

Thank you for these directions.
I followed these and "Helix DNA plugin: Realplayer G2 PLugin-in Conpatible" is loaded and it's set to "Always activate" as you suggested.

I'm not sure what this all means but I'm ready for any further instruction.

Thanks again, Allen

Maybe the site you are visiting is not using the realplayer plugin. Look for any file download (.ram, .smi, .asx, etc.), download and play it directly in the player.

I contacted the owner of the site and he sent me the file so I could load it without useing a browser.

Thanks for the help.
