It is a 33.6 Faxmodem made by Robotics. It's connected to an Ubuntu computer via the RS232 interface connector.

I realize my question is wide in scope. For now, I'll be happy just to learn how to dial out using Minicom. I've already set up minicom
but can't seeem to be able to enter a phone number in the directory menu.

David,

Thank you very much for your advice.

After playing around with minicom a few times, I was able to use it. However, I subsequently found efax-gtk even more user-friendly.

Last night I was able to configure and use efax-gtk to dial the free fax phone number of www.faxtoy.com, 1-888-877-1655. Efax-gtk seemed to have sent my fax as a pdf file per efax's instructions, but later there was no evidence of it in the faxsent directory. Neither did I see it at www.faxtoy.com.

Can you tell me what else I need to do?

Unfortunately I've never used Efax-gtk, so I'm not able to provide much help other than telling you that there is a mailing list, available at https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/efax-gtk-general , and a public forum, available at http://sourceforge.net/forum/?group_id=109982.

David,

I feel that part of my problem might have something to do with Linux denying me permission to use the efax-gtk directories -- faxout, faxsent, etc. SInce I am the admin of my own computer, I fail to see the reason. I've tried using Properties of each directory to change Permission in vain.

Can you tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks.

David,

I've just unlocked my faxin, faxout and faxsent directories by issuing the following commasnds from the home directory:

sudo chmod 777 faxin
sudo chmod 777 faxout
sudo chmod 777 faxsent
