I want firefox to remember my passwords

I used a master password for some time but when I found that nothing was remembered, I wanted it to remember. Now I am not offered the option to have UBUNTU or Mozilla remember the pw. The option is greyed out. How do I get it to remember.

Lastpass is amazing and cross platform. I cannot say how great it is and it's free.

ActionParsnip: Thank you I have started to use it and it works well although a little unweildy at first, as ones pw's get saved it becomes more friendly. I searched UBUNTU packages and Synaptic first but found it on the net.
