xbox 360 ethernet to laptop problems help please

when i was using windows xp i had bridged my connections and was able to use xbox live with nat type open but as i am new to ubuntu the furthest ive got is connected to xbox live with moderate nat type ive tryed dmz and port forwarding please help i would love for it to work as it did on my old win xp system

You can configure a bridged network in Ubuntu too. I have no personal experience but the documentation is here:

A router between with the connection coming out will be cheaper and easier as the PC will need to be running for the console to have web access, this is a lot of power compared to the average home-grade router which uses hardly any. It is also significantly easier to setup as the router will provide DHCP and setup both systems for you.
