I forgot my authorizing password

I forgot my authorizing password. How can I recover it or change it? I cannot add, remove or upgrade my software.

Please refer me to an answer to this problem. It is the authorizing password I need to change. I have over 700 upgrades I have not been able to process. I have some software I want to remove, some other I want to add and I have a disk Ubuntu 13. I want to add, but can not. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 at this time.
