Why have you installed server version when you need graphical interface?

Back to your problem:
Add this line to file /etc/apt/sources.list

deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 7.10 _Gutsy Gibbon_ - Release i386 (20071016)]/ gutsy main restricted

now update the database ("sudo apt-get update") and install software from CD.

"as long as i m not familiar with command line in linux"

→ how long do you have the server version? If only short time give it up and reinstall it with Desktop version - I think for you will be much more easy to install these "server things" to desktop version (because it has graphical interface) than to install a set something in text mode...
