Boot Problems

Asked by Caleb

I've been trying to install Ubuntu 7.10 on my Dell 5150 laptop. However when I try to boot into the CD, its like xp just ignores it and boots off the hard drive. I've tried it so many times I feel sick.
I've burned the CD multiple times at different speeds to make sure the information is correct and it appears to be. I've also made sure the computer is booting off the CD drive. I have no idea whats wrong.
but I don't want anything from the current OS anymore so I don't know if it would be easier to just scrub the hard drive and start from scratch. any ideas?

Caleb,

If you are having a problem booting from the CD-ROM drive with both your Ubuntu and Windows CDs it is most likely an issue with your CD-ROM drive, and or the BIOS settings.

Ensure that when you got your CD image from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu that you checked it with https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM.

After following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto to burn the disk, you can try and boot the disk.

If you are having problems booting, please refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD

This should eliminate all possible problems.

Best Regards,
