Problem installing Kubuntu 6.10

Asked by Yapper

After using Dapper for the last 8 months on a Dell laptop (Latitude C640-A10) happily co-existing with XP, decided to do a clean install on the linux partition with the new Edgy. Used alternative iso, passed checks etc., but fails at point of installing wvdial (about 87% of select and install software). Increased partition size from 7.2 GB to 10.5 GB in case of space issues. Failed again. Grub now fails with error 15, so had to use old floppy based boot loader to get XP fired up, downloading dapper iso again to see if that will re-install. Any thoughts?

The first thing I would do is to check the ISO image that you download is correct, and also to verify that the resulting CD that you burned is in fact 100% intact.

Please refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

Let us know how it goes :-)

Iso image seems correct and verified from the install menu, (happens on the live CD as well. Downloaded dapper iso again and reinstalled. no problems. Will try and update to 6.10 using Apt but it is strange why it stops at wvdial on both CD's.

Additional.... After another 6.10 alternative ISO download and re-burn, install stopped at 85% (different program this time). In end, returned to Live CD, used manual method of selecting install location, increased size of swap file to 650mb and successful install. Still agree with williamts99 that it was probably a stuffed ISO image even though it passed the checks once it was on a CD. (both alternative install ISOs downloaded using another O/S... Live CD downloaded using Dapper...) All mended, thanks for your interest.
