I need to delete Ubuntu to re-install windows XP then re-install Ubuntu

Asked by Brian Holland

As I'm a Linux virgin I made the mistake of wiping windows XP off my laptopwhen I wanted a dual boot system now Ubuntu won't recognise the XP cd-rom so I can't re-install it. I love the simplicity of Ubuntu so I don't want to lose it but with mp3 players and a tv module which all only work on windows I need to have it back if only to keep my kids from hounding me as soon as they come home from school.

Ubuntu does not have to recognize your WindowsXP cd. What you do is restart your computer with the XP cd in the CD-ROM drive the same way that you installed Ubuntu.

I have Windows but I want to Install Ubuntu seperately, keeping Windows. When I try to install Ubuntu it says it will format all the disks and all tha data will be lost. I do not want this. I have installed ASP Linux keeping Windows in C drive. For this I have a seperate 10 GB partition. In ASP Linux we have the option for Custom Install. Does Ubuntu also has tha same installation.
