I am dual-booting xubuntu 13.? and debian wheezy. Each has its own / and /home partitions. I'd like to get rid of debian

Asked by Ken

I am currently dual-booting xubuntu 13.? and debian wheezy. Each has its own / and /home partitions. I'd like to get rid of debian and boot xubuntu directly. There is no issue regarding preserving data on the debian partitions - everything is duplicated on the xubuntu system.

Advice would be hugely appreciated.

Boot to Ubuntu and have it write Grub to the MBR, you can thene delete Debian. You may want to boot to liveCD and resize partitions into the freed space, or make a new partition for casual user data etc.
You may need to also boot to liveCD if the system does not boot after the removal of Debian but you can use a chroot from liveCD to resolve the issue using this guide:

Andrew, thank you for that link! I found it most interesting and I do believe it/you fixed my problem. I'm rather pathetic when it comes to the operating system and, knowing me, I'll have another disaster of my own making by tomorrow! I will never be bored! :-)

Thanks again.

Best wishes.

Ken.
