Kernel update 3.13.0-7 breaks Unity - How do I fix it?

Asked by Christopher

After upgrading from kernel -6 to -7, my Ubuntu 14.04 is pretty much unusable. Compiz doesn't start, there is no launcher, panel or HUD. I was able to start cairo-dock vial the terminal (ctrl-alt t), but couldn't get Unity to start.

CCSM cannot be started at all. I have Ubuntu Gnome installed in an other partition, and it is unaffected by the update, so I presume it has something to do with compiz.

I suggest you report a bug. Trusty is not ready and not stable.

Thanks for you reply. There were further updates to the -7 kernel that fixed the problem I was having.

Ubuntu Trusty is one of four distributions on my laptop. My workhorse is Saucy, but I like to test new releases and see what breaks to help the cause. Trust has been for the most part surprisingly stable for an Alpha.
