I have installed windows on a different hard drive and now cannot boot ubuntu

Asked by MrNatewod

I have two hard drives. One SATA on which Ubuntu is installed and the other IDE on which i have just re-installed windows XP. After re-installing windows on the IDE drive i no longer have the GRUB menu and could not find a way to restore it. I have downloaded the super grub CD and am able to use it to boot into Ubuntu but could not figure out how to restore the GRUB menu with it so i would be able to boot into Ubuntu without the CD.

How can I boot into Ubuntu without the super GRUB cd?

Based on this tutorial: http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/Installing-GRUB-using-grub_002dinstall.html

After you boot in Ubuntu (with super-grub-cd), write in a terminal
"sudo grub-install /dev/hda"
,and reboot without that cd. You should see the grub menu ;)
