Requirements for Linux/MS-Win VM guests

I am interested in learning VM in order to be able to set up a VM system so that I can run Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP simultaneously on a MacBook Pro laptop with 4GB RAM and a 120GB hard drive. But I know nothing about the subject. My MacBook is currently running Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows XP and I wouldn't mind altering it compeletely so as to convert it into
a VM machine the easiest way.

I would appreciate getting some basic information from this forum in terms of system hardware/software requirements.

Your system is fine enough for virtualization. You will not get 3D acceleration in the VMs and I recommend you install LXDE to reduce strain on the host system instead of Gnome which is quite bulky. The virtualization technology you choose is up to you. You will need to check online to see if your CPU supports 64bit guest systems or you can just stick to 32bit which will work regardless.

Can you help with this problem?
