dgcmodem, a driver for a usb fax modem, does not finish installing, the orange bar stops just short of filling, for over 16 hours. same behaviour on two computers. I can upload the driver if it will help. Thanks.

Asked by Paul Kasnakian

Hi!
A NexXtech (Radio Shack) usb fax modem fails to install on two computers, an HP desktop and an Acer laptop. The installation behavior is exactly the same for both computers. Both are running a fully updated version of 12.04 LTS.
I begin by first inserting the driver disk that came with the usb fax modem. I find and open the linux folder and right-click the deb file. I choose to open it with Ubuntu Software Center.
Software Center opens and I click install.
It begins to install quickly until the orange progress bar stops just a millimeter short of completion and it seems to go on forever. I ran the install attempt over-night on both computers and to be sure it needed the time.
An attempt to install without Software Center also failed, with no sign of anything actually happening.
Finally, I ran Firefox at the same time as attempting an install with Software Center and no effect.
Thanks. I appreciate your help.
Paul

What is the name of the deb file please? There may be a later version online or it may even already be in Software Centre.
