Possibility for Folders in Unity (Feature Requeest)

Asked by Pascal

The addition of Folders in the Unity Launcher would be great. Perhaps as a project part of Unity8, I don't know, but something to allow you to group certain icons together would be really helpful. The way I see it work would be, Open Dash, and there'd be a button to 'Add a Launcher Folder' or something like that, then you can slide icons from the launcher on top of it to 'include' them into the folder. This would allow to sort applications that you use occasionally (office apps like Open Office Writer, Math, calculator, etc) a folder to sort your games into, or any other possibility!

Activate the folder, it opens a small overlay (like HUD or DASH) with the Launchers that are in that icon. I would see this as beneficial as it would allow you to fit more apps to the launcher without over-filling it to the point where you need to scroll for 15 seconds to get to that game you just installed or such.

When installing an app from the DASH, if you have folders, I'd see a drop-down appearing below the Install button (or over when clicking on it) to select which folder (or none) you want the Launcher put in.
Could also be useful for the Phone's Interface as well, as the <folder shortcut> would open a page with the apps you put in that folder, for easy and personal sorting of the many many many programs available to Linux Users.

The ability to set a custom keybind for the folder would also be something nice, that could accelerate the use of the user interface.

Add folders in the Unity Launcher is a great idea. It could be used like Stacks in MacOS.
