NVIDIA 331.38 Installer fails to build UVM module on kernel 3.13.0-5

Asked by FluxKing

I tried to install the nvidia driver install NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.38.run on ubuntu 14.04 with kernel 3.13.0-5
but when building the unified memory kernel module i get an error (cannot assign kuid_t to uid_t)
and if I run the install with --no-unified-memory the driver installs but I only get blank screen.

Is there a patch for this combination og kernel and driver?

Why are you not using the version in the repos?

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

Will install the driver for you.

nvidia-current installs nvidia driver 304 not 331

Ok I installed nvidia-331 from repo but I still just get black screen with kernel 3.13.0-5
If I boot with kernel 3.11.0-11-lowlatency it works, but I get about 40% lower framerate than with ubuntu 13.10

I'm on an Alienware M17xR3 and GTX 675MX

Have you installed Bumblebee? Seems your system uses that Optimus switching GPU junk.

Then you will probably need it to get things a bit nicer. It's far from perfect but may help

Can you help with this problem?
