Fresh install and computer won't shut down... help pls

Asked by Josh

So I finnaly got fed up with windows and decided to give ubuntu another try, I had tried it a few years back and ended up selling the laptop it was on. I formated the hard drive and did a fresh install of ubuntu and everything is running great, and not only that I'm amazed to see how far Ubuntu has came since I first tried, I'm really happy with the system all around. After a long night of playing with my new favorite OS I finnaly decided it was time for bed went to the top right hand corner hit the power key and then told it to shutdown. The OS logged me out and stayed at the log in screen....... and did nothing, So i tried from the log in screen, and still nothing happend. Then I decided to try restarting from the same drop down menu.... still nothing. I did a little research and couldn't come up with any conclusive answers to my problem and fatigue got the best of me, I held the power button down and called it a night. So now the next day I just walked in the door and am writing this up. I am a new user to ubuntu, I know nothing about coding in terminal and urgently need someones advice with more experience then me.

Thanks in advance for your replies and input, It is greatly apprieciated

I do not know how to fix the problem. I can tell you how to use terminal to shut computer down. To bring up terminal, hold down these three keys at the same time Ctrl Alt T. Type in the command below.

sudo poweroff

Open the Terminal. (If you press the 3 keys --- CTRL+ALT+T simultaneously, you will be able to open it.) Then Copy & Paste the following line in that Terminal

sudo poweroff

Now press the Enter Key. Is it OK?

What I mentioned above is the way to open Terminal . As you know, this is not the best method to Shut Down your computer. You should be able to Shut Down the system in the correct way. So, if the problem persists, please don't forget to ask again here itself.

In the terminal. If you run :

sudo dmidecode -t 1; lsb_release -a; uname -a

What is the output?

As in the earlier command you will be asked for your user's password. Type it and hit ENTER. You will not get any feedback as you type but your input is registering.

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with shutting down your Ubuntu system. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your experience with Ubuntu overall. As a fellow Ubuntu user, I can understand your frustration with encountering unexpected issues.

If you haven't already, I would suggest checking out the Ubuntu forums or asking for help on the Ubuntu subreddit. There are many experienced users who are willing to offer advice and guidance for those who are new to Ubuntu. You can also try reaching out to the Ubuntu community via their official website or social media channels.

In the meantime, if you're in a hurry to shut down your system, you can try pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds to force a shutdown. However, this is not recommended as it can potentially damage your system or cause data loss.

Don't worry too much, there are many solutions out there, and with a little bit of research and help from the community, you should be able to resolve your issue soon. Good luck, and I hope you can get your system up and running smoothly! you can also check : https://garagedoorrepairnewportnews.com/garage-door-spring-repair/
