Problem with spanish repositories

Asked by Angel L. Mateo

Hello,

During last months, I'm having problems with the spanish repository hosted at ubuntu.cica.es. The problem is that the repository is too slow, and an "apt-get update" last for 5 minutes (or even more). I have probed from different client pcs and different internet providers

I suggest replacing

ubuntu.cica.es

with

fr.archive.ubuntu.com

for every occurrence in the /etc/apt/sources.list file.

This is probably an issue with ubuntu.cica.es and not with your PC.

There are lots of Ubuntu mirrors, so you should not hesitate to switch to a faster mirror.....

When navigating to

ubuntu.cica.es

using a webbrowser, I also notice that the website is very slow....

You don't need to use a Spanish server, I would suggest you let Ubuntu use the fastest mirror possible (there is a button to check the response time of the different mirrors). I do that when I feel the speed is below what you should expect.

In fact, I'm using es.archive.ubuntu.com, as configured by ubuntu installer, which is directed to ubuntu.cica.es.

I know I could use the repository from other country, but as that is the one configured by default for spanish installations, I'm afraid this could be a general problem affecting to a lot of spanish users.

If you want the issues with es.archive.ubuntu.com and ubuntu.cica.es to be solved, you could try submitting a new bug report.

However, the last time such a bugreport was submitted in 2008, it was closed very quickly.

Here is the old bugreport:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/222712

That is why I suggested switching to a faster mirror....

Or just use the main server. This is selectable in software centre.

Can you help with this problem?
