Graphics problems after 10.04 update
Specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid)
Kernel Linux 2.6.32-54-generic
Gnome 2.30.2
AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor
ATI 870A-G46 Motherboard
MSI R6870 Hawk Radeon HD 6870 1G GDDR5 256bit PCIE 2.1 Crossfire Support Video Card
I just did an update for the first time in a while on my 10.04 machine. When I restarted the machine, it was unable to get past the Ubuntu loading screen. I finally managed to get into it by starting it up in recovery mode with the fail safe graphics and then got it up and running in the normal mode by swapping the graphics back to the generic fail safes. Do I need to try reinstalling the graphics drivers?
When I start the AMD Catalyst program (my graphics and screen resolution program), I get the following:
Initialization error
There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following.
No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware, or configure using aticonfig.
Here is a list of possible suspects from the last update. I can provide a complete update list if requested.
