HW support in future release

Asked by Richard Vajdel

Hi,

are planned any HW compatibility improvements in next Ubuntu release(14.04)?
I have notebook HP Pavilion g7 with AMD HD Radeon 8670M+Intel HD graphic card and i was struggling through installation. In ubuntu 13.10 installation process wasn't working wifi( but in Kubuntu Saucy yes), Live enviroment wasn't working and after installation on my disk, Ubuntu didn't start and went in to Low graphic mode with nothing happening- even commands in console weren't working( i tried to install fglrx). Only Ubuntu 12.04.3 was working well with one bug found in graphic drivers( already fix commited). I tried Fedora 20 KDE spin and it wasn't working either, but, is there any plan for better support? In kernel, or some patches? Because it's really funny, that LTS release is working out of the box and new 13.10 or 14.04 daily build can't even start with new mesa and improvements in kernel for radeon deivers.... .....

Yes. Each new release brings new compatibility and so forth. Switching video chip technology (mess) support is still a bit hit and miss and in my opinion best avoided to ensure a smooth running OS.

Can you help with this problem?
