ATI Catalyst installation (fglrx) Problem Ubuntu 12.04, HD3650, Acer 5920G

Asked by Matthias Klopsch

Hello forum,

after a lot of try and error I now don´t know how I can install the ATI catalyst 13.1 driver on my Acer Notebook.

My Notebook is an Acer 5920G with Intel Dual Core T7300. My system is Ubuntu 12.04.03

I tried every single way in a lot of Ubuntu forums to get the catalyst and fglrx driver installed, but when I try to install the deb files by tiping "sudo dpkg -i *.deb" following happens in the terminal (I´m using the German Ubuntu):

Building initial module for 3.5.0-44-generic
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.5.0-44-generic (i686)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/fglrx/8.970/build/make.log for more information.

ldconfig deferred processing now taking place

also the crash report can´t find something. I also tried Synaptics, a lot of ways for manuall installation and also by executing the .run file, but everytime there is an error during installation. My "fglrxinfo" shows after failed installation the following:

X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 153 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 12
Current serial number in output stream: 12

I hope that someone can help me fixing this problem, because I realy need catalyst. My Notebook fan is running at high speed when I´m using the Open Source driver and my Notebook is getting very hot.

Thanks a lot.

Matthias

Ideally, you do a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.1 so you don't have to use the hack in the previous comment, but life isn't always ideal...
