Well the correct path is

System -> Preferences -> Advanced Desktop Effects Settings -> Rotate Cube

But first have you enabled Compiz ??
You need to go to
System -> Preferences -> Visual Effects and check Extra

Hello..
you need to have extra repositories enabled..
To enable all the software repositories do ref this link..

http://www.arsgeek.com/?p=2794

after getting all the required repositories enabled

Type the following command in a terminal (applications -> accessories -> terminal)

sudo aptitude install compizconfig-settings-manager

This will add an entry to your System > Preferences menu listed as “Advanced Desktop Effects Settings”.

Make sure that you have “extra effects” turned on by navigating to System > Preferences > Appearance, selecting the Visual Effects tab, and selecting Custom at the bottom. Clicking the Preferences button will also launch the Compiz Config Settings Manager.
and below are the most used short cuts:
SUPER+SHIFT+DRAG LEFT MOUSE = draw fire
SUPER+SHIFT+C = clear fire
CTRL+ALT+DRAG LEFT MOUSE = rotate cube
CTRL+ALT+LEFT ARROW = rotate cube
CTRL+ALT+DOWN ARROW = flat desktop
SHIFT+ALT+UP=initiate window picker
CTRL+ALT+DOWN=unfold cube
ALT+TAB=window switch
SUPER+TAB=flip switcher or ring switcher depending on which is enabled.
ALT+F7=initiate 'move windows'
SHIFT+F9=water effect
SHIFT+F10=slow animations
CTRL+ALT+D=show desktop

For Grouping and Tabbing:
SUPER+S=Select Single Window
SUPER+T=Tab Group
SUPER+Left=Change Left Tab
SUPER+Right=Change Right Tab
SUPER+G=Group Windows
SUPER+U=Ungroup Windows
SUPER+R=Remove Group Window
SUPER+C=Close Group
SUPER+X=Ignore Group
hold the super button then select the windows you want to group and then hit super+g

also You can add new shortcuts.. all that you have to do is just you can select one of the plugin(double click on it) and in actions tab of the plugin, under bindings you can change the shortcuts. You can even add a screen edge as a binding so that when you move your mouse cursor to screen edge(say top left) compiz will execute the particular action. It goes really nice with expo plugin. have a great time with compiz fusion!
(the one with windows logo on it (in some keyboards along with windows logo "start" is printed)
This is the super key..

Walter, make sure you have 4 virtual desktop enabled, as gutsy is configured by default to have 2 virtual desktops.
Assuming you have still the default desktop configuration:
  - look at the bottom right of you screen. you shuold see two squares near the trashbin. These are your virtual desktops.
  - right click on one of those and select settings/preferences (i don't remember what's the precise name).
  - configure your desktop to have 4 virtual desktops. then close the dialog.
  - press ctrl+alt+left arrow, and watch the cube rotating :-).

Let us know it this solved your problem.

Walter,

It does sound like you don't have 4 virtual desktops.

hello..

Try increasing the number of "Workspaces" to 4 and try..

to do that right click on the square boxes on the right hand side bottom of your screen and click on preferences.. Then Workspace switcher preferences window will open up. Then increase the number of columns to 4. and then use the Cube function (CTRL+ALT+DRAG LEFT MOUSE = rotate cube)

Hope that helps

Bhavani Shankar.

Doesn't sounds like a simple issue. I guess your best bet is to ask in
ubuntu forums.

Good luck !

Try installing compizconfig-settings-manager 'sudo aptitude install compizconfig-settings-manager'. Then go to System... Preferences... Advanced Desktop Effects Settings, Select General Options , and select the Desktop Size tab and set the Horizontal Virtual Size to 4.

Or you could do this without installing ccsm by going to 'gconf-editor' apps, compiz, general, screen0, options and make sure that the hsize key is set to 4.

i think he mean's he want's his cube to be round instead of flat, like on this page "http://www.gnome-look.org/content/preview.php?preview=2&id=78033&file1=78033-1.png&file2=78033-2.png&file3=&name=noname-peace". If that's the case i'm interested to.

Can you help with this problem?
