touchpad and mouse stopped working lenovo s230u ubuntu 13.1

Asked by dumpa

I installed ubuntu 13.1 on a Lenovo s230u Twist.
Everything was working fine.
The touchscreen works and initially the mouse and trackpad (with multitouch) where working fine.

Last night I turned on the computer and I had no mouse and no touchpad.
An external mouse works.

Turned off the multiple desktops, reboot and now it works.
I turned it on again and it is working.
I reboot with the multiple desktops and it is working.
It is the only change I did.

mmm don't know what is happening. If it stops working again I'll let you know.

It turns out that if I reboot with an external mouse the trackpad and internal mouse work.
If It boots without an external mouse connected the trackpad and mouse don't work, and sometimes the touchscreen stops working.

Keyboard and Touchpad stop working for cold boot after password entry. Sometimes it is even stuck before. It works after restarting via touchscreen (hot boot?).

I found the following solution [1]:

Set this line in "/etc/default/grub"

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="i8042.nomux=1 i8042.reset"

Then update grub file with "sudo update-grub"

Can you help with this problem?
