install failed after boot. Tried 6.06, 7.04, and 7.10

Asked by realtime on 2008-02-06

I made an error and submitted this on a closed bug report.

I have no trouble duplicating this error.

This is the latest attempt.

I attempted to install 7.04, 6.06, and 7.10 with similar results.

This is the result of trying to install 7.10.

Disks are partitioned and formatted ext3 but there are no systems installed.

I received similar errors before I installed SUSE 10.3
SUSE installed itself on the SATA drive. Ubuntu would not install itself on any drive.

There may be data on the drives from running Knoppix, if it does not clean up its files.

There was data on the drive (C drive I think) from saving it while running parted-magic.

This is after I installed SUSE.

I think may be hard-disk damage or related issue...
try to boot from Ubuntu install cd and please try some startup kernel parameters

But first please make some common check using first boot menu Ubuntu live cd options...
Try to perform the "Memory test" and the "Check cd for defects"

Then... please reboot your pc and starting with Ubuntu live cd please try to put some common Ubuntu kernel live cd options you can find the boot options howto here:
First parameter you can try by put them one by one or together are:
noacpi nolapic nodma all_generic_ide

If this don't work i suggest you to download and burn on a cd at lower speed you can do (4x)
here an howto
the Ubuntu alternate install cd iso image ( ubuntu-7.10-alternate-i386.iso ) you can download this cd from here:

Hope this helps
