how to make a mail server for ubuntu server 7.1

Asked by interind14

i have installed on a pc ubuntu server 7.1.
I have a small LAN, where all the pc are connected to each other.
I have this ubuntu server too in this lan.

I want to create a mail server for this lan, i have no internet connection, so i only need a mail server for this lan
the only thing that i need is sending email through each other in this lan

Is there a software to download, and a simple guide step by step to make this ubuntu server with mail server??
i repeat. i only want to be able to send email only in LAN, i have no internet connection and i don't want to use this mail server for internet connection.
Just only sending email in LAN.

Two popular MTAs are Postfix and Exim both of which can be installed via Synaptic.
Check out their respective web pages for more info about how to manage them but even
for a small network it might not be as simple as you might expect.

Also please refrain from political statements here.

go to www.zimbra.com and www.citadel.com
both are free to use

the first one is very powrefull and i think it's more professional than the other because it's supported by yahoo.
the second one is very easy to install and to use and has a lot of features u gone need them like messenger, rooms, mail and even u can connected it to ur users mail client through pop and imap protocol like (outlook and evolution)
I tried it on fedora 7 to make it easy for installation, but there is a version for debian distr, but i found this is will be more simple to do my job without any complicated issues.

have a nice day

Well what kind of trouble did it get you in?

Zibra installation is quite straight-forward and there is a lot of info in it's web page.

This is the URL for downloads

http://www.zimbra.com/community/downloads.html

as for client this software already has a web interface to check your emails
but if you want to use a client Ubuntu come with Evolution which is an excellent client
