Copy files programs to disc

Asked by hugh f

Hi

When I try to copy files to disc I get a copy image to file with a little disc turning in the window, in this screen it seems to be doing that but nothing seems to go to disc, also when I put the disc back in to the drive nothing seems to have happen, another window opens that says that it cannot mount disc it seem that it will only open a disc with something on it, looking some help please ? is there some program missing or am I trying to copy files the wrong way, again thank you for taking the time to read this and any advice would be helpful

Thank you Macuto
The disc is the CD - DVD drive on the computer (to CD ROM) and I am trying to do some copy and save of files that I have on the computer, I have transferred files from another computer to OO word and OO spreadsheet using a CD and everything seems to work ok that way, now I have files and down loads that I am trying to back up. To start of when I put a empty disc in the drive the drive icon does not appear on my desk top (this may be ok but if there is something on a disc the icon does appear) I them go to >places >computer and open, the icon is there I click on it and try to open it there at this stage it tells me it is (unable to mount media) in a little pop up screen it also does this if I have no disc in the drive. I hope that from this information you may be able to help, and once again thank you for your response to my query

ok, I am not a expert but unable to mount means the computer is not reading your disc.

Do you want to burn a CD with the information in your hard drive ??

Do You CD drive read another disc like music or data ??

Have you try a program like brasero to burn the data in the CD ??

I have down loaded Brasero but still not working

I went to -> places -> computer, open right clicked on the CD drive icon then -> properties -> permission I get a screen with this information on it
          owner: unknown
          Access: read only

          Group: unknown
         Access: read only

         Others:
         Access: read only

also to try to change these settings I get

The permission could not be changed
sorry could not change the permission of this "CD-rom/DVD-rom drive

would this have anything to do with it if so how do I change these settings
as above in your question the drive will open any CD as long as there is something on it, either music or files, but will not recognizes a blank CD if it is in the drive (as with other operating systems on another computer when I put a CD in the drive, if it is blank it shows a blank CD icon, this drive does not)

agian thank you for your time and assistance

Again thank you for your feed back Macuto

Not completely sure but it does say on the door of it (DVD-rom) yes it may not be the fastest but it is compatible with the disc as it will read from them, the disc that I am using are (infiniti-compact disc recordable) I see these as a standard CD disc, on the other operating system I do use, that I hope to change away from soon these disc will back up files, pictures, and songs it may be worth mentioning that this drive was put into this computer and did work OK on the computer it came out of (operating system out of date) this computer had a bigger HDD and more Ram so it is set up as a ubuntu only operating system Work very well apart from this little problem

Thanks again Macuto hope this information is of some help hughf
