How to contribute to bug fixes and eventually write some code

Asked by Vaithiyanathan Sundaram

My name is Vaithi.

I am trying to find a place to contribute for open source community. Since I have used Ubuntu for many years, I really want to contribute for its growth, while I learn the internals of the Linux kernel.

I read the instructions completely, and I am interested in Ubuntu kernel team contribution as well as Ubuntu drivers. In fact I am comfortable and have experience working in C/C++ and assembly.

Someone please guide me to start with some initial bug fixes. Do I have to contact specific module owners? I checked out few bugs that were not yet assigned. I am not sure if I can assign myself or if I need to follow a specific rules.

Hoping for your response.

Thanks.
Vaithi.

Contact projects that interest you and offer your services.

Start simple by doing easy bug fixes like typos and things like that. There are lots of smaller projects like "Xubuntu" etc etc. Ubuntu always welcomes code!

Thanks craig. I am starting to look into the code and set up my system to reproduce the bugs.

I will post another question if I have a query.

Thanks again.
