How can a system be restored?

Asked by Navin Talati

Sir,
Ubuntu is an operating system. While making some alterations in some packages/utilities/addons etc. some time the system gets changed to something else and may loose something. At that stage we may realise that previous status of the system was better. What changes we made is recognisable from USC -History. It enlists the packages which are installed and which are removed on a particular day. My question is:
(1). How can I re-set the system as it was before ( i.e. say at a particular day/date)?
(2). Which command are required to be applied in the Terminal?
Thanks in anticipation.

This is not a default feature, you could make an image of the system partition in liveCD (make a separate /home and / partition helps here a lot). Then run a normal data backup of your user data as normal. You can then reinstate the image of the system should you want to roll back.
Thanks
