Unable to boot laptop with Windows 8.1 and ubuntu 12.04

Asked by sreekanth jujare

Hi,

I installed ubuntu 12.04 along side windows 8 earlier and everything was quite fine. I have recently updated to windows 8.1 and when I used ubuntu for a while and tried to start windows again, problems occured. I was unable to boot in to any of the Operating Systems.

I then created boot repair program on a usb and tried to repair the boot records.

After I have run the program, it recommended me to boot from the file sda1/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi file which I am not sure of how I can achieve it.

Could some one let me know on how I can do it ?

The logs generated by the boot repair can be found on http://paste.ubuntu.com/6407080/

Please help !

Regards,
Sreekanth

The W8.1 upgrade will reenable the unwanted "Fast Boot" option under the power settings. Be sure to disable it again.

Hi UBfan,

I could not find any power settings in the BIOS setup. I guess you were refering to power setting when the windows OS is running. But, unfortunately I am unable to start either of the Operating systems.

A function key (or maybe ESC or DEL) (varies by machine) typed early in the boot sequence should get you to the efi boot menu, which gives you boot choices for devices and OSes. With fast boot on, it may be VERY difficult to get the key to work. I found without fast boot at bootup, 6 seconds elapsed before the vendor logo showed up, then I could type the key (F12 for me). With fast boot, the logo showed up at 3 seconds, and that was too late to get F12 to work. Only by rapidly repeated typing F12 as soon as power was applied did it work. I then went to Windows, and turned off the fast boot., You should be able to select either OS via this method.

Can you help with this problem?
